Comprehensive Learn to Lead Rock Climbing
Instruction
You have been climbing
for awhile and are tired of constantly following. You want
to change the view and get on the sharp end of the rope. OWLS
has a comprehensive course which will challenge you and send you
out into the climbing world as a new, confident, safe lead climber.
We do not believe in mock-leads at OWLS, but rather have you lead
climbs that are well within your ability. The instructor will
ascend a fixed line as you climb so that every placement can be
evaluated as it is placed and the student kept safe.
Besides anchor choice, gear placement, and rappelling techniques,
students will discuss all aspects of being a good lead such as route
selection, route finding, weather, mental status and partner selection.
A good understanding of anchors, at least one year of experience
seconding, and self-rescue are prerequisites for this course.
The students will expect to have a comprehensive review the first
morning, with the rest of their time spent on the cliff practicing.
While the main focus of this course is to teach "Trad"
traditional multi-pitch climbing, some time will be spent discussing
different aspects and concerns of sport climbing. This course
needs two people.
