Whitewater Kayaking Lessons and Paddling
Instruction
Our ACA Certified instructors help you learn the
lines through the whitewater and clue you in to the easy routes.
If you prefer, a more challenging course you can practice surfing
in the many class II rapids. You will have the opportunity to develop
and practice some river reading skills along the way identifying
eddielines and understanding stream flow dynamics. Between the rapids
you will have a chance to practice your river skills and rolls.
The climax of the trip is class II/III Balconey Falls just upstream
from the take out. We will stop at the “Falls” to scout
and learn the various lines possible through the rapid. We do our
courses on a challenge by choice format so if the previous six miles
have provided you with enough excitement for the day and the Falls
are looking like a bit too much, walking around is no problem and
easily done on a path around the Falls. This is our most popular
kayaking program. Also, the water is cleaner than the Patomac River
in Washington DC and the James River through Richmond, Virginia.
